While working on my big guest bedroom project I found myself needing some new bedside lamps. I had two that were next to the bed that I really liked the shape of- kind of a modern meets retro base on the both of them, each with a cool cylindrical modern/retro shade. I didn't really want to spend $20 each for a couple new shades so I ran to the craft store and went on the hunt for some fabric. I perused the clearance fabric for a bit before I found what I was looking for. I got more than I needed, which I recommend.
You never know when you'll need a little extra for your current project or another one. Since I'm covering 2 shades I went ahead and got 2 yards so I'd have some left over.
Fabric- around $7
I already had the rest of the supplies like the lamps and both shades. However, if you do have to purchase them they aren't very expensive if you shop around.
*Try craft store for shades and consignment shops for lamps.
One of my shades is plain white but the other one has a dark pink design on it. Unfortunately putting a patterned fabric over top of a different pattern may not work without something to make the original shade pattern disappear. This is my first lamp shade project so I thought I'd try a new approach.

A quick lesson in refinishing...
Today I'm going to run you thru refinishing a headboard (or any other furniture that may need revamping).
This headboard is part of the guest bedroom project, but I should let you know that I'm going a little out of order by doing this first. There's no specific order you have to follow with your project but I generally like to wait to paint furniture until I at least have paint on the walls just so I can be sure that the color I'm about to paint it works with the entire room. But alas, it's December in Indiana and it's pretty cold but every once in a while we'll get a 55 degree day so I have to take advantage of the sun and temp when I can.

Here I have a full size brass headboard that I bought on Craigslist for $15- you can end up paying over $150 if you buy one at the furniture store, and around $80-$100 at the consignment shops so Craigslist was the way to go with this one. This is an example of having a good idea of what you want but looking for something close to that idea that you can easily change to fit your room.
While there's no specific order you must follow with your project, there are a few steps you need to follow when you spray paint.

So here's the gist of Bone Broke Design...
I believe that every room of your home should be cute, comfortable, and have your name written all over it. But more importantly it should look like it was done by the pros- but for way, WAY less.
Bargain hunting is the spine of Bone Broke, but don't get ahead of yourself- before you start perusing the clearance aisles you need to have a few things in order:
Know the overall "theme" of the room you're about to work on
-Be able to confidently say to yourself "I want this room to feel like...." and stick to that theme, wether it's a cozy bed and breakfast, an island oasis, a tuscan villa, etc.
